Boston:

I wanted to get a quick trip in to see one of my old college roommates who lives in Boston, and Halloween was coming up, so I couldn’t resist seeing how Boston and Salem celebrate. It was a very short trip (2 full days), but we got a lot crammed in.

On the first day, Brigid gave me a walking tour of Boston. We saw the Market Place, Faneuil Hall, old churches, and little Italy. It is a really neat city fully of rich history. To end the day, we went on a ghost tour. How could we not? It was Halloween weekend after all. The tour was part bus, part walking, and the guide was in fabulous. He was in character the entire night. We stopped at cemeteries, were told ghost stories about hotels, and walked through eerie old parks. This really is something not to be missed!

Salem:

The second day was Halloween, so we took a train to Salem. Wow. So many people dressed in costumes, especially witch costumes. All of the houses, restaurants, and stores were decorated to the max. There were people swarming through the streets. It was a lot to take in. We mostly just walked around and absorbed the celebration vibes and had a good laugh at all of the “real witches.” We also took a trolley tour of the city though to learn more about the history. It didn’t focus on the witches as much I would have liked, but it was very informative and we got to see a side of Salem that most people don’t think about. For instance, there is a beautiful coast!

Boston Again:

After spending the day in Salem, we headed back to Boston and met up with another old college friend. She is getting her PhD at Harvard (so proud of her!), so we had dinner and delicious cupcakes with her while catching up.
