Garden of the Gods:

We had to fly home today. I still don’t know what compelled me to actually board the plane and fly back to Chicago. I guess it is because I have a job and apartment here… but Colorado, oh how I miss you. Even though we stayed in Boulder last night and flew out today, we couldn’t resist making the drive down to Colorado Springs for a quick drive through the Garden of the Gods.

Ummm… I think we did the trip in the wrong order. I’m sure it is absolutely amazing, but we were less than wowed. It also could be in part due to the fact that it was sweltering and all I wanted to do was stay in the cool air-conditioned car. But, it was pretty. The rocks are a smack you in the face orange/red, and the formations are kind of cool. There is one that looks like a sleeping giant (or is he dead?), another that is a picture frame for the famous Pike Peaks, and yet another huge boulder that looks to be precariously balanced on a tiny rock beneath. Some of the spots you could view from your air conditioned car, but others required a bit more walking. Something I wasn’t that keen doing on this particular day. I think the park would have been truly awe-inspiring and had you wondering how the gods created it if it had been the first stop on our visit. But I kept thinking that we should have driven through Rocky Mountain National Park one last time instead. That being said, do not remove this from your itinerary, just move it to the beginning. And maybe go on a day that is not so ridiculously hot. It is a place that should definitely be seen.
