A Toiletry Bag Review

I’m pretty picky when it comes to a toiletry bag. But not in the typical sense. I don’t really care about the color or style. I couldn’t care less about how many pockets it has or if it is waterproof. But, it must have a hook to hang on a door or shower rod and the bag must have a low profile. As you know, I pack light. So, a big bulky toiletry bag simply will not do. Enter the Suvelle Hanging Toiletry Bag. And, now that it has seen everything from cramped smelly hostel bathrooms to luxury Vegas bathrooms, I think I have enough information to give it a review.

The Good

As I stated earlier, I bought the Suvelle Hanging Toiletry Bag for two reasons. (1) It has a hook to hang on doors and shower rods. There isn’t much to say about that except yes, it has one. For those who don’t know why this is such an important feature, let me fill you in. If you ever plan on staying at a campground or a hostel, you will most likely need to hang your toiletry bag or you will be stuck putting it on a dirty wet floor. (2) It is low profile. By this I mean it takes up almost zero room when there isn’t anything in it. I don’t compromise when it comes to taking up space in my bag, and I don’t want a toiletry bag wasting space that could be used for something more important. Like an extra pair of clean socks.

Although those were my main concerns, this toiletry bag does have other nice features. There are 4 sections to help keep everything organized. One small zippered pocket, two larger zippered pockets, and a row of small open pockets. The small zippered pocket is the perfect size for medications and bandages. One of the larger pockets holds my makeup and hair products. The other has all my shower goodies like shampoo and body wash. The small open pockets are the perfect size for a toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

Another feature that I like is the entire bag zips up instead of having a snap or a Velcro. I like this because it gives me another central compartment. I can put a travel towel or pajamas in the bag and just zip it all up. It also means nothing can accidentally fall out.

The Bad

After traveling with this for a while, I have found some cons.

(1) I know I said that I didn’t care if the toiletry bag was waterproof, but it can be annoying when I put it on the bathroom counter that is unknowingly wet. It then absorbs all that water which is kinda gross when you are in a hostel. Who knows where that water came from. As a side note, it does dry very fast when it gets wet.

(2) The bag has held up pretty well considering that I throw it around and am not that careful with it. However, the rope-like zipper pulls for the main outside zipper always fall off. Not a big deal, but it is a design flaw. And it happens with everything, including my backpack. How do they not realize those things always come off?

(3) It would be nice to have a mirror. If I wasn’t so lazy, this would be an easy fix. Just glue a cheap mirror on. But, I am lazy.

The Recommendation

I highly recommend this toiletry bag. It holds way more stuff than necessary without taking up much room itself. Also, you can hang it up so it doesn’t get dirty from the counter or the floor.
